Search and Rescue Training - Basic Land Navigation (BNAV) Course

The Basic Land Navigation (BNAV) course is one of the foundational training courses for personnel who may respond to a Search and Rescue (SAR) incident as a field searcher.

The course is intended for all emergency responders, including law enforcement, fire service, emergency management, and parks and recreation personnel who may be involved in a search incident during the course of their duties.

This course provides a broad overview of:

Land Navigation
Compass use
Pacing and distance determination

No prior SAR training or experience is required to successfully complete this course.

ICS-100
ICS-700

Additional Information

Successful completion of this course is required before attending the Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) course.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older and affiliated with an ISARC member agency.
The class includes both indoor and outdoor instruction.
Participants must attend the entire class to receive a Certificate of Completion.
Class size is limited to 24 participants.
